Observations in Leadership

This presentation will include observations of the qualities and characteristics of great and not-so-great leaders from both military and workforce contexts. An outline of how to prepare yourself for leadership roles will enhance your ability to achieve successful results as a leader. The presentation will include tips on how to become visible within the organization so your name will be considered for a leadership opportunity.

About the Speaker

Rod completed a 20-year career of active duty service in 1997 as a Commander in the Supply Corps of the Navy. Notable assignments include the Freight Terminal Director, Naval Supply Depot, Subic Bay, Philippines during the withdrawal of the Navy after the Mount Pinatubo volcano eruption in 1991 and Project Manager for the Navy's implementation of the Worldwide Port System, an automated ocean cargo documentation system developed by the Army and implemented at all military cargo handling port facilities. Rod was the first Supply Corps officer to earn qualification in all three primary Supply Corps warfare designations of submarines, air warfare and surface warfare in addition to qualifying for the Basic Parachutist and Naval Parachutist warfare devices.

Rod received his B.A. from Iowa State and his MBA from Penn State. He is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) with the Project Management Institute; certified as a Quality Engineer (CQE), Quality Manager (CMQ/OE), Qualify Auditor (CQA) and Software Quality Engineer (CSQE) with the American Society for Quality; Certified Production & Inventory Management (CPIM) and Certified Information Resources Management (CIRM) with the American Production & Inventory Control Society; Certified Professional Logistician (CPL) with the Society of Logistics Engineers; Certified in Transportation & Logistics (CTL) with the American Society of Transportation and Logistics; and Certified Tester (CSTE) with the Quality Assurance Institute. Rod is employed by Watlow Electric Mfg. Co. as a Project Manager.
