About the Presentations

First Presentation
Quality in the Pharmaceutical Industry
Presented by Larry Mattson, KV Pharmaceutical.

Quality in the pharmaceutical industry covers all aspects from documentation and validation through manufacturing processes to facility design and management. Larry will present a pharmaceutical case study/simulation game for teams to work on using concepts such as metrology, quality life cycle, auditing, method transfer, suppliers, compendial, and sampling.

Larry Mattson is the Quality Control Manager of Technical Services at KV Pharmaceutical. His responsibilities include managing metrology services, technology transfer, training, raw material methods development and validation, and research and implementation of new technology. Larry has 25 years of experience in pharmaceutical quality control/assurance. Prior to joining KV Pharmaceuticals, Larry was Quality Assurance Manager for Tyco Healthcare/Mallinckrodt we he was responsible for quality oversight of drug product manufacturing, packaging, warehousing, testing, and vendor auditing. In addition, Larry worked as Laboratory Manager at Forest Pharmaceutical managing QC and sampling operations and Associate Director of Celsis Laboratories managing contract lab operations and project management/sales. Larry holds a B.A. in Science and MBA from Webster University.

Second Presentation:
Trivia Night hosted by Jim Ebone

Since 1996 Jim has been the Quality Manager for DRS Marlo Coil where he led the registration effort to obtain ISO 9001 and maintain ASME U-stamp Certification. He participates in contract reviews, new product development, supplier surveys/surveillance, reviews work in process and final product audits, internal audits, corrective and preventative action, field service follow up. Jim has an extensive background in quality working for National Graphics, National Vendors, Carrier Air Conditioning, AM Sterilizer, Roper Corporation, and Ingersoll Rand.

Jim holds a BS in Civil Engineering from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN and an MBA from Auburn University in Montgomery, AL. Jim has been a member of ASQ since 1976. He is a Certified Quality Engineer (1986), Certified Quality Auditor (1996), and a Senior Member of ASQ.

Membership meetings, unless otherwise noted, are held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month; September through May. Plant Tours are sometimes substituted for a regular meeting.

The price for Members and Guests to attend meetings is $25, and for Members between jobs and Students $15, unless otherwise noted.
