Obtaining Lightning Fast
Process Improvements

Presented by Chris Anderson CQA, CQIA; Section 1304 Chair

How much time does process improvement need to take? Is there a minimum amount of time required? And just what constitutes process improvement in the first place? In this interactive presentation we will explore some of the factors that inhibit us from obtaining lightning fast process improvements.

We will see process improvement efforts ranging from seconds to hours unfold before your very eyes. Imagine what your company could do with second’s long improvement efforts. Come to see how a manufacturing process is changed in hours to reduce WIP inventory, uneven flow, and line stoppages. We will see set-up time reduced and waste vanish.

We will join process experts from within three host companies along with participants from the outside to see process improvement first hand in an AME Kaizen Blitz (sm) video presentation. The team is trained to apply the AME Kaizen Blitz(sm) tools and is empowered to tackle a clearly defined problem. These "Learning by Doing" results are spectacular!

An AME Kaizen Blitz(sm) team made it possible for EG&G Sealol to get 3,900 extra hours of annual production time on just one machine using a 3-day event. What could you do with the extra production capacity if set-up time could be cut by 79%? Another AME Kaizen Blitz((sm) team made it happen at Tech Industries. 30 minute video and interactive discussion.

About the Presenter

Chris Anderson, M.B.A., the Managing Director for Bizmanualz, Inc., is a strategic deployment and process improvement trainer, consultant, and public speaker having published dozens of articles and taught hundreds of hours of classes on creating well-defined processes, implementing lean six-sigma, and deploying process improvement strategically for competitive advantage.

Lean Manufacturing Exercise

Presented by John Duffy, CQA

Join us in an exercise in developing, improving and sharing technology. A competition will be held to determine the best performing design for a common item. On completion of the competition, participants will share the design of the winning competitor in order to improve the performance of the whole group and the improvement in performance will be measured.

Learning Points:

  • Developing new technology causes wide variances in performance
  • We are weak on methods for sharing technology
  • Together, we are smarter than any one of us individually

About the Presenter

John Duffy is currently a consultant for Bizmanualz, Inc. working as a trainer, consultant and developer of quality systems. He holds a Masters in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) from University of CT and a BS in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from University of CT. John is an ASQ CQA and a IRCA Certified ISO 9000 Auditor.
