Director of Quality - St. Louis Area Manufacturing Company

Job Description

Quality Director will provide the strategic direction and technical expertise in the development and implementation of quality systems that will allow our company (small manufacturing company) to provide superior quality parts to our customers. While we are currently ISO certified, this individual will continue to develop, modify, and maintains quality standards for products and processes.

Scope/Supervision and Interaction:

Reports to President. Interfaces with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing and customers.

Essential Functions
  • Design and implement a robust quality system to build quality into our process.
  • Lead team of Test Leaders and Test Engineers to execute and complete assignments.
  • Interviewing, hiring, training; planning, assigning, and directing work; performance management, employee coaching, developing and mentoring; sharing of departmental performance and accomplishments.
  • Acts as the primary contact for customers and external certifying agencies regarding system and quality inquiries, audits and investigations. Conducts quality-related customer and vendor visits and contacts as required.
  • Complete ISO audits and certification as well as ASME reviews and updates.
  • Leverage expertise on quality initiatives, Six Sigma methodology, and Root Cause Analysis processes to improve quality and reduce cost.
  • Create, communicate and drive a clear operating and prioritization for the team.
  • Track Key Performance Indicators including but not limited to; on-time delivery, product quality, scrap rates, etc.
  • Provides input on quality to product development teams.
  • Develops and initiates programs along with Director of Supply Chain to improve supplier quality performance.
  • Writes training material and conducts training sessions for the operations floor on quality control activities.
  • Manages Production Approval Process (PPAP), Advanced Product Quality Process (APQP), and document control.
  • Assesses quality performance (or cost-of-quality) using statistical and analytical methods. Devises and implements various methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision, reliability and accuracy of products, processes and production equipment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree (BS) in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 3+ years of experience in a leadership position within a team of quality professionals.
  • American Society for Quality certification required.
  • Thorough knowledge of state-of-the-art inspection and quality inspection and quality engineering/assurance techniques, procedures, instruments, equipment, theories, principles and concepts and general business operations.
  • Ability to effectively assess and implement continuous improvement techniques to quality and manufacturing functions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to team members, team leaders and top management.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing desired.
  • Experience in maintaining and improving and ISO 9001-2000 quality system.
  • Six Sigma training; Green or Black Belt is desired.
